Louisiana

OMG. I totally feel it. After 4 gumbos, a shrimp etouffee, a crawfish etouffee, two trips to Cafe Du Monde beignets, two Po’Boy sandwiches, one alligator cheesecake and one muffletta, I feel the weight right on my tummy. And for once, I don’t regret it.

So here they are. Photos from Baton Rouge / New Orleans.

First up, the state capitol.

When we were at the top of the capitol building, we saw another building that looked like a castle. Of course, we had to go check it out. (It was the OLD State Capitol)

On our way to New Orleans, we stopped at the Laura Plantation. If you ever get a chance to go to the South, I definitely recommend visiting to one of the many plantations. Jimmy and I visit two very different ones, and were totally satisfied. We saw slave homes, sugar plantations, bedrooms over a hundred years old, and gorgeous dining rooms.

New Oleans! I was SO FREAKING excited to be there! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the food, the colors, and the sound of the city!

Jimmy and I each had our “thing”. Jimmy : Abita beers. Me: potato chips!

We saw a ton of street performers, but these guys were my favorite. BY FAR!

I’m already planning my trip back. 2012? Sounds good to me!

Arkansas

I admit I had absolutely no clue of what to expect in Arkansas. Well, actually that’s not true. Jimmy told me about all the green I will see, the ticks, the people, the food…but I guess I never really thought about it until I got there.

And even though I firmly believe that pictures are worth a thousand words, I think that my images are not great enough to convey the beauty of the place, the heat, and the fun I had. Let me give it a try…tell me what you think!

The view from the front of Jimmy’s great uncle’s house…absolute nothingness, and very, very green.

Jimmy’s great uncle owns a shoe shop, so I stepped in and photographed him in action.

I think Uncle Bill was pretty stoked to have a handsome helper by his side who took orders and charged $1 for shoe repair!

I, of course, got me some 4-wheeler action. YEE-HAH!

One of our favorite past times was to throw ice across the road. Yup, it was pure excitement.

We took an 8-hour boat ride around Lake Ouchita, which was totally ginormous.

On one of the days, we even drove out to the crystal mine. I swear it was the hottest day there. I didn’t even last a minute. Don’t hate, it was more than 100 degrees!

On our last night, we went to grandma’s high school reunion. Love the cute classroom!

I left Arkansas feeling totally content. Up next…Louisiana!

ROUND TWO

Time sure flies. Today is our 2-year anniversary and I am happy to celebrate it in beautiful New Oleans.

Soo…I know you’re wondering what Jimmy got me. Well, last year Jimmy bought me a seatbelt bag from one of my favorite stores, Harveys, after ignoring my wish to get me a check or a wad of cash (one-year anniversary gift is paper).

Well, china / cotton is the key word for the two-year anniversary gift. This was actually a difficult one, and Jimmy being Jimmy, he managed to completely ignore the tradition and got me something totally awesome.

Wanna see?

What is this, you ask? Well…

It’s a seatbelt camera strap! Yup, a red seatbelt camera strap. And I totally LOVE IT! It’s different, which is what I like most, but it is also pretty comfortable and it stands out.

So, I have received seatbelts for the last two years. If this trend continues, I will probably be receiving a brand new car next year. Stay tuned!

Lake Ouachita

Before I leave, here are few images from our 8-hour day on Lake Ouachita in Arkansas. The lake was gorgeous, not to mention ginormous.

Out of Town

School’s Out!

WHOO HOO~! Summer is here, which means I have 11 WONDERFUL WEEKS of sleeping in, lounging around at home (!), having long lunches, catching up with friends and family, and of course, shooting, shooting and more shooting. With that said, I am off to Arkansas / Louisiana, and as much as I want to blog and show you all the wonderful sites, I would like to warn you that I may not have any Internet connection for about a week. Please be patient with me…I have lots and lots of amazing shoots to post!

…and because a post is not complete without a photo, here’s a recent one of us in front of Royce Hall (UCLA) after congratulating our friends Ryan & Jackie on their PhD.
