1 year birthday!

Little K is one year old and his parents sure know how to throw a party! Friends and family got together at the beautiful South Coast Botanical Garden last Saturday and enjoyed the California weather.  Drinks were flowing, the kids were laughing, the balloon artist was amazing, and the food was awesome!

Here are some images…

July 23, 2009 - 2:24 pm Galen - That cake is AWE-some!!!

Where did you get that??

Some of  you may disagree, but we’re not very hip. Jimmy and I. We don’t own the latest gadgets, wear cool clothes from stores we can’t even pronounce, and we’re not the eat-at-super-fancy-restaurant kind of people.

But once in awhile, we get stopped by stangers and are asked, Where did you get that?  In a good way, of course.

For example, when I first got my seatbelt bag back in 2005, I was stopped constantly. This bag is still in good shape and I USE IT EVERYDAY for work.

Then came this one. I was once stopped by a lady in a Ralph’s parking lot at 11pm. How in the world did she see my bag in the dark? I think she was stalking me from the inside. I especially LOVE this one because unlike others, this is made with recycled seatbelt.

Last year when we went to Japan, I picked this up and since then, have received many comments.

The middle edamame  has a face. Cute, huh?

Last but not least, let me share Jimmy’s wallet with you. Yes, his wallet. I still can’t believe people actually think this is cool. Because it’s not. Well, at least not any better than the ones I’ve been buying for him for the last 10 years!

This wallet is made of Tyvek, the packaging used by FedEx. It looks like paper, but you can’t really tear it and it’s totally weatherproof.

So yes, in the lives of Jimmy and Sakura, these are the few things that makes us cool.

August 29, 2009 - 11:24 am Amber - I have 3 seatbelt bags...LOVE them! The treecycle is my favorite!

July Wedding

Last week, I had the honor to photograph a gorgeous, intimate wedding at Lawry’s in Beverly Hills. The bride was absolutely beautiful and relaxed…just the way I like it!

FAQ’s

Here are some answers to FAQs.

Where is your favorite place to shoot? Where do you recommend for a family photo?

I love shooting in places with lots of color and texture. I recently found a secret spot in good ‘ole Torrance with railroad tracks and tall grass that I intend to use more often. Depending on the age of my clients, I may choose to go for a more grungy, urban look in the city.

For families, especially with little ones, I love shooting at local parks. I find that parks are great because I get to observe natural conversations and makes it easier to document their interactions.

How early in advance should be book you?

You can check out my calendar section on my website for my availability. I usually book about a month in advance, but if you are looking into holiday cards or Mother’s Day photos, I recommend calling two months in advance.

Does your husband come to all your shoots?

No. Although I would LOVE for him to come to all my shoots *I need moral support!*, he tends to help me out for events such as weddings and parties. Also, if the location is far, he tags along as my chauffeur and my second shooter! Yes, he’s committed to what he calls the “family business”

What’s in your bag?

I am a die-hard Canon girl. I love my Canon 40D and my favorite lens is the 50mm 1.4. I also have the 85mm 1.8 that I love to use for my fabulous girls sessions, and  a 10-22mm wide angle lens. My zoom is 28-135mm.

What do you use for post-processing?

I *heart* Photoshop. I have the Photoshop CS 3 on my laptop and I am still learning new tricks every day. Although Photoshop should not be used to make bad photos better, it definitely enhances images in unbelievable ways. It is so much better than the dark room (I remember the endless hours I spent surrounded by nasty smell of chemicals), and is so much faster! It definitely helps to define my style. Almost all the images on this blog and my website have gone through some type of Photoshop post-production.

…and because a post is  not complete without photos, here are some from today’s wedding at Lawry’s.

July 14, 2009 - 7:57 am Sakura - Thanks, and you're welcome!

July 13, 2009 - 6:36 pm Christine Shirota - sakurachan, thank you so much!

July 11, 2009 - 8:48 pm Carol - Nice pictures, Sakura! Tricia looks beautiful. Can't wait to see more. Are you sure you want to be one of my bridesmaids instead of being my wedding photographer? ;)
